NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 1-11-2022

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  Those in attendance were Craig Knox, Fire Chief; Jake Lutz, Assistant Fire Chief; Larken L Slack, Derek Dozer and Randy Elson; Township Trustees and Paula Frank, Fiscal Officer. Also in attendance were, township residents:  Bernadine Swingle and Brandon Stackhouse.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Elson at 6:00 pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by Randy Elson.

Agenda:  approved. 

Minutes:  approved.

Public Participation:  none.

Fire Department Business:   Calling hours for John Tignor--FF will be standing guard at his casket.  Engine 1081 will transport him to Wesley Chapel Cemetery.  Unofficial runs for 2021 is 1,205.  Mutual Aid to Masonic Temple – ladder operated for 15 hours and 486,000 gallons of water was used during that time.  3.2 million gallons used is the city’s estimate.  Banquet is this Saturday – doors open at 5 and dinner is at 6. 

The fire department was awarded $7500 from the Co-Op to go toward the heart monitor. 

Assistant Chief – Delivery date for new cots – end of this month.  New heart monitor will be here the end of the month as well.  Medic is getting a new bumper, covered under warranty.  The powder coating was rusting.

Road Report – Zella Drive – he will not be able to turn around in the driveway before the end because that drive is concrete. 

Brine truck – take the tank and make it mobile as needed.  If it exceeds $4999, those items need to be discussed at a meeting not just decided on the spot.     

Old Business – none.

New Business – Road List – the division between the 3 trustees.  Discussion followed to decide which trustee got which road based on geography, asphalt roads, gravel and chip seal. 

Trustees discussed bidding out the mowing of the cemeteries in the township.  Fiscal Officer will get a bid put in the Times Recorder and those will be opened at the next meeting, February 8, 2022.

Dozer— none.

Slack— none.

Fiscal Officer Report:

·         Distributed Grassroots Clippings

·         Continue discussion on electric bill being split between General Fund / Fire and EMS funds.  The trustees determined that we would split it 30% general fund and 70% fire/ems fund.

·         Throw was ordered for John Tignor’s services.

·         Diana Lantz – discussed her hours per week with her and she is asking for a job description or what areas she is to clean.  She states that since the fire department went full time, she has not been told the separation of duties for her and the duty crew.  She has submitted a rough draft of what she will be making in to a spreadsheet, to show what she does each week of the month and her hours.  Will give to Craig to review and have him return to her once he has a chance to make any corrections.

Trustee Dozer made a motion to pay bills.  Trustee Elson seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at 6:00 pm.
