NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 4-3-2019
Newton Township Trustees met in special session on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019. Those in attendance were Pat Kelly, Township resident and architect; Jeff Swingle part-time Township employee; Craig Knox Assistant Chief and EMS Coordinator; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek Dozer, Fiscal Officer.
Meeting was called to order by Trustee Elson at 6:00 pm.
Public Participation: None.
Fire Department Business:
Roof is leaking and need to try and get quotes.
Discussion on roof and how to proceed. Jeff Swingle and Pat Kelly will be going up on roof after meeting to see the damage and see if they agree with the contractors opinion.
Next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 at 6:00pm at the Fire Department.

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019. Those in attendance were John Stottsberry and John Phillips, Township Residents; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek J. Dozer, Fiscal Officer.
Meeting was called to order by Trustee Elson at 7:00pm.
Pledge to the flag was led by Randy Elson.
Agenda approved.
Minutes were approved as presented.
Public Participation:
Dora Maxwell
Feb 29, 2020 – Casio Night for Community Days. Requested to be able to serve alcohol.
Trustee Stephenson made motion to allow Community Days to hold the event. Alcohol can be served if they can get the proper permitting and security the event through the Sherriff’s department.
John Phillips
Presented information on a program through Nationwide and the Ohio Farm Bureau to win a grain rescue tube.
Fire Department Business:
Nothing new. Roof may not be as bad as first reported giving a couple years to fund the project.
Road Report
Cracks on Broadvue Circle. $9,000 estimate from Birkhimer.
Foxfire Drive – 3 wet spots. $16,000 estimate from Birkhimer.
Old Business - None.
New Business
Stephenson – Ironspot.
Smith – Requested that the Township send a letter to Zemba Brothers, County Commissioners, and Don Madden about the streets in Avondale.
Salt has been delivered. State bid needs answered by 4/16 and will communicate that we need 300 tons next winter.
Trustee Smith made the motion to order 300 tons of salt on the state bid contract. Elson seconded the motion and all 3 agreed. Trustee Stephenson to place the order for 300 tons.
FEMA meeting next Wednesday. Trustee Stephenson to attend.
Trustee Smith – Working on Ironspot and Mahon Rd slip. Mahon slip was likely caused by residents digging on hillside he is going to go to the area with Bob Mock and assess what could be done.
Gave listing of roads for Fiscal Officer to put out for bid for 2019 paving and chip seal.
Trustees Reports: - None.
Fiscal Officer Reports
Payment registers, appropriations, fund status reports, grass roots clippings received.
All bills deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.
Next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 at 6:00pm at the Fire Department.
