NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 3-14-2018

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018.  Those in attendance were Jon Stottsberry, John Phillips Township residents; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor for the Township; Allen Deaver Fire Chief; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek Dozer, Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Stephenson at 6:00 pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by Robert J. Stephenson.

Agenda approved.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation: 

Jon Stottsberry – Wife lost a tire on Yost Road on a piece of chip seal.

Fire Department Business

Brush truck has major problems.  Needs around 9k of engine work, injectors, etc.  Allen would like to purchase a new 2018 Ford brush truck for around 60k.  Truck is $39.5, Utility bed is 7k, lights etc extra.  A Ford truck is on State bid.

Trustee Elson made the motion to purchase a new Brush Truck up to $60k, that price includes the truck and everything to be placed on the truck.  Trustee Stephenson seconded the motion.  All were in agreement.  Motion passed.

Bids were taken to do work on the Fire Department.  Bids were to new door in basement, cover entryway ceiling, and to put standing seam metal on the end of the building.  Bids were Mumford Home Improvement for $18,000 and Joe Smith Construction for $14,222.00

Still waiting for another bid.  Next meeting a decision will be made.

Road Report – Larry Taylor

Parts for grader should be in tomorrow.

Roads have been soft and using a lot of stone.

Trustee Elson gave patching list for roads.  Roberts Addition issue.

Old Business -     Couple properties.   Properties on Limestone Valley, Hoover Street in E. Fultonham, Elm Street in E. Fultonham.

New Business -   Roads for 2018 to work on.

Would like to bid blacktopping some roads in 2018.

Nothing more.

Fiscal Officer Reports

Payment registers, appropriations, fund status reports, grass roots clippings received.

Correspondence read including meeting notices and price increases on oil.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.
