NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES   6-13-2018

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, June 13th, 2018.  Those in attendance were Jon Stottsberry, John Phillips, Kelly Temple, Mike Schilling, Township residents; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor for the Township; Allen Deaver Fire Chief; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek Dozer, Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Stephenson at 6:00pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by Robert J. Stephenson.

Agenda approved.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation: 

Kelly Temple - Wants to know what he needs to do with the vehicles on his property located on Limestone Valley Rd.   Said he has lived there for 50 years and has had vehicles there since he’s been 18.

Mike Schilling  – 4130 Madison Street.  Alley needs to be open behind it.  Power company can’t get down in the area.  Don Jones is the owner of the property.

Fire Department Business

New brush truck is all but done.  Brush guards put on truck yesterday.

Rescue was scratched on a run by Larry Geiger.  Larry was sent for drug test.

AC unit in meeting room is not working.

Medic 1081 AC went out of it.

All repairs done on the ladder truck.

In lieu of sending brush truck to public auction it was sold to New Straitsville.

Knox gave packet of information for bids on work to building.

Needs copy of Township’s BWC certificate.

Road Report – Larry Taylor

Working on Slack culverts now.  Putting a 15 inch culvert.

Patching holes.

County Engineer’s Office has not given road information back.

18 foot width for 1 mile is $75k to 80k approximately.

Trustee Stephenson presented list for paving.

Moxahala Park Road is getting rough.

Greenhouse is getting rough as well.

Discussion on paving for 2018.

Paving = Nolan, Porter, Kennedy, Linn, Sunset, Jenkins, Woodland

Chip seal = Moxahala Park, Avalon, Mahon

Chip seal or motor pave = Greenhouse

All the above will be put out for bid.

Old Business -  None

New Business -   Trustee Stephenson meeting with Health Department in Ironspot tomorrow.

Rucker Road – Last Thursday farmer was chisel plowing a field, he pulled onto road and left plow down.  Gentleman in question is Todd Schaeffer.  Mr. Schaffer said that he would pay for the damages.  Crawmer did repairs on the road.  Mr. Schaeffer said he would pay for the damages.

6940 Axeline – Health department asked Trustee Stephenson to provide a way for resident to get to the dumpster.

Kennedy Drive – Dealing with a sink hole.  Residents think that a pond was in the area.

3030 Jenkins – Business starting to repair vehicles.  Deed restrictions may limit this.

Trustees Reports: 

Nothing more.

Fiscal Officer Reports

Payment registers, appropriations, fund status reports, grass roots clippings received.

Correspondence - COBRA Pipeline sent Township documents on ongoing court issues, Charter Communications letter on service changes, Quasar Energy solid waste letter from EPA, and Sudden Link.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Meeting adjourned at 7:40pm
