NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES   8-8-2018

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018.  Those in attendance were John Phillips, Township resident; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor for the Township; Allen Deaver Fire Chief; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek Dozer, Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Stephenson at 6:00pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by Robert J. Stephenson.

Agenda approved.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation: 

John Phillips – Shaw Road pot hole.  ˝ mile at most from Moxahala.

Fire Department Business

Finley in and repaired AC plug.

Nozzle failure on fire.  Being rebuilt.

Grow facility on SR22.  Been there 3 times.  Have done an early life safety inspection.  Sidwell’s are working with them.  They also received the processing license this week.  Ethanol will be on site now.  50 gallons of ethanol in a specific area and 50 gallons in a cabinet.  Working with them to meet the code.

Signed MOU to use VTAC1 and Muskingum Counties direct channel.  Work in progress.

There was a large fire at a grow facility in California and making contact to see what can do to prepare for limiting those issues.

No smoke detectors in the facility as code does not require it.  However Deaver is working to convince them to install them.

Fire on Clay Street and hit Facebook.  Negative comments on FB about Newton getting there first.  Saved 1 of 3 dogs and people got out.

Community Days.  Church in White Cottage called and wanted to have an axe throwing contest.  For liability purposes the idea was not approved.

Stucco work on the building is not a priority due to it being cosmetic.  Deaver would like to put out the specs and then pick and choose.

Trustee Stephenson made motion to divide up the work and break out the above projects.  Trustee Elson seconded the motion.  All three Trustees agreed.

Classes will kick off in the Fall.

Road Report – Larry Taylor

Getting pavement ready for work.

Chip and sealing will need to be worked on once paving is started.

Shelly will being paving on 20th of August or after.

County will be chip sealing at the end of August.

18 feet wide on Greenhouse now.

Have salvage title for old pick-up truck.  Will scrap it out in Fall.

Circle in Southern Hills needs worked on.

Second round of mowing is starting.

Old Business -  Chip seal discussed.  $11,000 +/- a mile through County.

New Business -  Model airplane flying on property was ok with liability.

Trustees Reports: 

Nothing more.

Fiscal Officer Reports

Payment registers, appropriations, fund status reports, grass roots clippings received.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.
