NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 5-10-2017

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, May 10th, 2017.  Those in attendance were Larry Macenko, Dora Maxwell, Shawn Maxwell, Don Yarger, Newton Township residents; Art Kunkler of 20/20 Enterprises; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor; Chief Allen Deaver of the Fire Department, Assistant Chief & EMS Coordinator Craig Knox of the Fire Department; James R. Smith and Robert Stephenson, Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees and Derek Dozer, Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Smith at 6:00pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by James R. Smith.

Agenda approved.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation:

Don Yarger – Township Resident and former Chief of the Newton Township Fire Department.

Was here to discuss the White Cottage Homecoming.  The charter has been filed.  EIN number has been issued.  Dance and Supper are tentatively scheduled for July 15th.  Flea Market in September the same weekend as the BBQ.  Have an old 8*10 shed that was Community Days and/or the Fire Department which has been sitting on Township property and they would like to bring it up on the FD site to make it safer.  Discussion about location and the shed itself.  Firearms will be permitted at the Flea Market as long as rule are set in place on breach being open and nothing will be allowed in buildings or restricted areas as set by the FD and/or Trustees.  No concealed carrys are allowed in buildings.

Bids for Wrecked Truck that was put in the paper

Only bid was a $410 bid by Larry Taylor.  Trustees approved selling truck to Mr. Taylor for $410.

Bids for Chip Seal in 2017

20/20 Enterprises was only bid for 2017 chip seal at $2.60 per gallon of RS2.

Fire Department Business

Want to hire 3 people.  Tyler Stutes, Paul Stewart and Ty Fox (upon his graduation from HS)

Stephenson made the motion to move forward with the hiring process for Stutes, Stewart and Fox.  Smith seconded the motion.  All 3 Trustees agreed.  Motion passed.

SCBA compressor has been installed.

Commercial Electronics has 7 radios at $1,800 each for a total of $12,600.  Discussion on the normal cost and what the radios would be used for.  Trustee Smith made the motion to purchase the 7 radios from Commercial Electronics at a cost not to exceed $13,000.  Stephenson seconded the motion.  All 3 Trustees agreed.  Motion passed.

 

Road Report

Have been grinding roads.  Have made substantial progress on many of the rough areas.  Slack, Opera, and working on others.

Mowing is happening now.  Started on the West side of the Township and are circling around now.

                Nothing further.

Payment registers, appropriations, fund status reports, grass roots clippings received.

Notice on CDBG Grant opportunities meeting coming up in June.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 6:00pm at the Fire Department.
