NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 5-13-2014

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. 

Bob Mock, John Phillips and Sherry Ziemer, Township residents; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor; Larry Geiger, Chief Allen Deaver, and Craig Knox of the Fire Department;  James R. Smith, Robert Stephenson, and Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees; Derek J. Dozer, Township Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Smith at 7:02pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by James R. Smith.

Agenda was approved as read.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation:

Bob Mock – going to be logging again on FoxFire and wanted to give a heads up.  Same company and did damage to roads last Fall and this Spring.  Mr. Mock will be doing a controlled burn and ask for contact numbers.

Fire Department Business

-          Discussed subsidances that were discoved on Huggins Rd.  The range from surface to 90 and 220 feet.  Shelly and Sands and Sidwell have been a big help per Chief Deaver.

-          Engine back on 30th.  Patterson and Lloyd picked up.

-          Bay Lights starters and bulbs keep going bad.  To replace all outside lighting would be around $4,000 but should be guaranteed long-term and energy savings.

o   Trustee Stephenson made motion to purchase up to $3,700 worth of lighting for bays and outside areas.  Elson seconded motion and all 3 trustees agreed.

-          Levy renewal committee will be starting.  Trustee Stephenson agreed to be on committee if needed.

-          Greg Slack filtered generator fuel.

-          April runs were 33 Fire and 60 EMS.

-          Genesis came and presented heart care award for April.  Josh Bryan, Keleigh Yarger, and Jeremy Yarger were recognized as being on crew who helped save patient.

 Road Report

Larry Taylor

-          Progress in White Cottage.  150 feet with a few inch drop is problem.  Bricks, riprap and other junk materials in culvert.  It empties across Limestone Valley and was installed in 1940’s.

Old Business

Smith – Garage ready to put metal on.

Elson – Are mowers ready?  (Yes per Taylor)

3476 Maysville Pike, Kathleen Kirsch need to fix her culvert.   Needs looked at.

Stephenson – Need to discuss chip seal for upcoming year.

Discussion on shirts for Township workers for Safety.  All 3 trustees felt it would be a good idea for them to wear safety colored shirts.

Stephenson – Nothing further.

Fiscal Officer reports:

·         Presented Board of Elections notice that was received after last meeting.

·         Presented increase in prices for Englefield and Shell.

·         Presented WC information on White and Unemployment claim for Lyons.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Fire Department.
