NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 6-10-2014
Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
John Phillips and Sherry Ziemer, Township residents; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor; Larry Geiger and Craig Knox of the Fire Department; James R. Smith, Robert Stephenson, and Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees; Derek J. Dozer, Township Fiscal Officer.
Meeting was called to order by Trustee Smith at 7:00pm.
Pledge to the flag was led by James R. Smith.
Agenda was approved as read.
Minutes were approved as presented.
Public Participation:
John Phillips – Would the Township be willing to help fill in hole by his house? Or could he fill it in with concrete and block? Trustee Stephenson will look into it.
Fire Department Business:
- Runs last month totaled 66. 21 Fire and 45 EMS.
- Engine back but now Rescue now is out for service.
- Hydrant and hose testing is completed. Sent results.
- Took down “highboy” lights in the gym and bays. Outside lights are done. Lights for MedFlight have been hit. Would like to dig up old and put in a sidewalk.
- Fuel in generator is good. Would like to get hoses to clean fuel tank.
- No figures yet for levies. Lose State matching funds to replace levy. Additional levy figures will be coming. Will need completed and posted by early August.
- FD will be getting together at Lake Isabella on July 4th.
- EMS Charter will needed changed and was submitted. Walhounding Valley class was suspended until permission is granted to house the class offsite.
- Spoke to Neff’s on driveway. Also spoke to County Engineer’s office on bidding asphalt for lot.
Road Report
Larry Taylor
- Have been ditching on FoxFire & Stine. Replacing culverts. There is a little mowing left to go in the first round.
Old Business
Stephenson – Had conversation with Dale Phillips. Going to close Kopchak and work with Springfield Township. Put up new signs on Stine. Had a complaint about mowing from Paul Slack, hit a cable box. Cable company took responsibility as not well marked. Received estimates on chip seal.
Sink hole EMA situation. Went to the meeting. Talking about moving people out and how to proceed.
New Business
Nothing further.
Trustees Reports:
Elson – Gills on FoxFire needs work. Patching on other roads when possible is needed.
Smith – Nothing further.
Stephenson –
Karen Pyles at 3029 Thompson Run Rd. Township cut her juniper bushes. Stephenson to talk to her.
Moxadarla – Bill Terry Oak Tree in the right-of-way. Tree may fall on McConnell’s possibly so need to be ready if they
Fiscal Officer reports:
· Letter from Debra Nye, County Auditor on Fire Levy expiring.
· Letter from Kathleen Kearsh asking from reimbursement for flood damage.
All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.
Next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 08, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Fire Department.
