NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 8-12-2014

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. 

Brian Borer representing AEP, Jim Heckel, John Phillips and Sherry Ziemer, Township residents; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor; Larry Geiger and Craig Knox of the Fire Department;  James R. Smith, Robert Stephenson, Township Trustees; Derek J. Dozer, Township Fiscal Officer.   Charles Elson was absent.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Smith at 7:01pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by James R. Smith.

Agenda was approved as read.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation:

Brian Borer representing AEP.   Came to speak about the Lewellyn Road area.  The road is now barricaded after the Blue Hole intersection.  Jim Heckel is asking that the road be closed at 4950 Lewellyn.  He said people dump trash, park, assuming do drug deal and nose around in the area.  People get stuck and asking his aging father to pull people out.  Borer talked about timelines for draining the Blue Hole and explained the fenced area is a restricted area in which people are not allowed on for any reason.

Fire Department Business

Trustee Smith made motion to all up to 32K for paving (including lot sealing) with Township to complete the prep work on the crumbling pavement in the East entrance.  Both Trustee Stephenson and Smith agreed.

Trustee Stephenson made a motion to accept a quote from Stewart Heating and Plumbing for $32,411.41 to install an HVAC system in the upstairs of the Fire Station and Ball Electric will do electric install for the system, approving quote for $7,362.38  Trustee Smith and Stephenson agreed.

The inflatable boat quote purchased with donated monies was submitted and accepted by both Trustees.

Road Report

Larry Taylor

o   Thompson Run Run – Culvert issue.

o   Butcherknife, Lower Kroft and Workman are completed.

o   Ford Rd beaver dam has messed up the creek.  Need to talk to Soil & Water on possible solutions.

o   Salt? – Contract received yet??     Dozer informed them have not received any paperwork for salt yet.

o   AEP has yet to call back Trustee Stephenson on tree on MoxaDarla.

Fiscal Officer reports:

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Fire Department.
