NEWTON TOWNSHIP MINUTES 2-12-2013

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 @7:00 pm in the township meeting room at the fire department.  Those in attendance were:   John Phillips, Township resident; Larry Taylor, Road Maintenance Supervisor; Larry Geiger, Craig Knox, Fire Department; James R. Smith, Robert Stephenson, and Charles R. Elson, Township Trustees; Derek J. Dozer, Township Fiscal Officer.

Meeting was called to order by Trustee Elson at 7:00pm.

Pledge to the flag was led by Charles R. Elson.

Agenda was approved as read.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Public Participation:

None.

Fire Department Business

Knox reporting;

                *  2 days until kitchen demo.  Cleaning now then tile will be installed.  Lights, fans coming.  2-3 weeks outs on cabinets.  Gave estimate on kitchen of $26,090.  Trustee Stephenson made motion for up to $30,000 for kitchen project completion.  Elson seconded and all 3 agreed.

                *  Engine 1083 has been repaired by Goodys.

                *  Engine 1082 generator has been repaired by Finley.

                * Run reports for January were presented.

Road Report

Larry Taylor

Holes and mud are big focus.  Priced culvert for Slack and will be around $2,000.  Trustee Stephenson called Matt Russell at Engineer’s Office on questions with bridge.  Trustee Smith made a motion to buy culvert for $2,000.  Stephenson seconded the motion and all 3 agreed.

Checked into guardrail for Georgia Pines.  (Discussion ensued on guardrail types, ease to put up, etc.)  Thompson Run area needs fixed and there isn’t a guardrail now there.  Would like to put up a regular guardrail.   Trustee Stephenson made a motion to spend up to $1,500 to install guardrail on Thompson Run and Georgia Pines.  Smith seconded and all 3 agreed.

Ditch on Butler Road needs fixed. 

AT&T sent Tonwhship claim for cutting line on Dilts.  The line is buried less than 6 inches deep in the middle of the road and the Township did not mean to cut it.  Will contact them and let them know the cable needs to be buried in a reasonable manner.

150 tons of salt left in bins.

Old Business

None.

Trustees Reports:

Elson – Received email on alley in Fultonham.  Terry Montgomery of 6990 Cannon Street wants holes fixed and alley widened. 

Smith – Nothing further.

Stephenson – Nothing further.

Fiscal Officer reports:

Presented copy of appropriations to send in to County Auditor.

·         Copies of the following notices were provided to each of the trustees;

                                Payment register, fund status reports, bank reconciliation, grass roots clippings.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

The next regular township meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:00pm in the township meeting room.
