NEWTON
TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES MINUTES - - 04-14-2005
Newton Township
Trustees met in regular session on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the
community meeting room at Newton Fire Department.
Those in attendance were: Derek J. Dozer, Charles R. Elson, James C Geyer
as township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk
Agenda was approved as
presented.
Minutes
from last meeting were approved.
No
public participation necessary.
Trustees Reports:
Shelly
Co. has received the bid for blacktopping Avondale streets through the receipt
of a block grant. Moxahala St.,
Market St., and an unnamed alley do not appear on the map of areas to be
resurfaced. This will need to be
done by the township at township cost.
Brian
Newton from the County Engineers office will meet with Geyer on April 15 to
address sink hole problems on Linn Drive, Market Street and Washington Street in
Avondale.
A
resident at 1180 Greenhouse Road has requested repairs to edgings along this
area of road that have gone bad and a culvert is needed in this area as well.
There is question as to the area being in South Zanesville jurisdiction
or Newton Township. This resident
does pay taxes in Newton Township – repairs will proceed as necessary
Midale
Road has been repaired for drainage problems.
There
remains a large amount of ditching throughout the township that needs to be
completed.
A
price list was presented from the county Engineers office for use of county
equipment and county labor (by their employees).
Geyer
met this week with the Community Days committee.
They have requested use of the old fire station and the adjoining lot for
Community Days in September. This
was approved by all three trustees.
Med
Flight has moved out of the fire department building.
Elson
reporting; 3090 Opera Road has been reported to have a ditching problem

Dona Dr. / Mrs. Norman states there is surge rock missing in her driveway area
and this has been remedied.
Slack
Road, Opera Road, and Ridgley Road are all in need of much repair.
Dozer
reporting; A report has been received that there is a pine tree on Zella Drive
obscuring the view of oncoming traffic. This
remains to be checked out.
The
trees on Nolan Drive still have not been removed by AEP.
Clerk Report:
Notice has been received from Ohio Public Works Commission District 18
regarding a training session for clean Ohio Conservation Fund.
Copies of same given to all trustees.
Frank
Gates is conducting training seminar for ways to lower premium rates.
Request
was made by the clerk to purchase a “Paper Shredder”.
All three trustees agreed to do this.
Estimates
requested from the State Auditors Office for performing the 2003-2004 audit have
thus far been unsuccessful. The
township has been listed on the AOS webpage for any further estimates that might
be forthcoming.
All
bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid.
Next
meeting will be held April 28, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the fire department.
