NEWTON TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES MINUTES - - 04-14-2005

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the community meeting room at Newton Fire Department.  Those in attendance were: Derek J. Dozer, Charles R. Elson, James C Geyer as township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk

         Agenda was approved as presented.

Minutes from last meeting were approved.

             No public participation necessary.

 Trustees Reports:

Shelly Co. has received the bid for blacktopping Avondale streets through the receipt of a block grant.  Moxahala St., Market St., and an unnamed alley do not appear on the map of areas to be resurfaced.  This will need to be done by the township at township cost.

Brian Newton from the County Engineers office will meet with Geyer on April 15 to address sink hole problems on Linn Drive, Market Street and Washington Street in Avondale.

A resident at 1180 Greenhouse Road has requested repairs to edgings along this area of road that have gone bad and a culvert is needed in this area as well.  There is question as to the area being in South Zanesville jurisdiction or Newton Township.  This resident does pay taxes in Newton Township – repairs will proceed as necessary

Midale Road has been repaired for drainage problems.

There remains a large amount of ditching throughout the township that needs to be completed.

A price list was presented from the county Engineers office for use of county equipment and county labor (by their employees).

Geyer met this week with the Community Days committee.  They have requested use of the old fire station and the adjoining lot for Community Days in September.  This was approved by all three trustees.

Med Flight has moved out of the fire department building.

Elson reporting; 3090 Opera Road has been reported to have a ditching problem

3585 Dona Dr. / Mrs. Norman states there is surge rock missing in her driveway area and this has been remedied.

Slack Road, Opera Road, and Ridgley Road are all in need of much repair.

Dozer reporting; A report has been received that there is a pine tree on Zella Drive obscuring the view of oncoming traffic.  This remains to be checked out.

The trees on Nolan Drive still have not been removed by AEP.

 Clerk Report:

Notice has been received from Ohio Public Works Commission District 18 regarding a training session for clean Ohio Conservation Fund.  Copies of same given to all trustees.

Frank Gates is conducting training seminar for ways to lower premium rates.

Request was made by the clerk to purchase a “Paper Shredder”.  All three trustees agreed to do this.

Estimates requested from the State Auditors Office for performing the 2003-2004 audit have thus far been unsuccessful.  The township has been listed on the AOS webpage for any further estimates that might be forthcoming.

All bills presented were deemed to be valid expenditures and were to be paid.

Next meeting will be held April 28, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the fire department.

             Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
