Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 7:00pm at the Newton Township Fire Department.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by president, Jim Geyer.

Minutes were approved as presented.

Those in attendance were:  Craig Knox, Don Yarger, Pat Kelly representing Kelly Architectural Services, James C. Geyer, Derek J. Dozer and Charles R. Elson, township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk.

Pat Kelly - New Fire Station

Next order of business went to Kelly; request from Bi-Con Services for payment was presented.  Additional money owed will be held until final punch list is completed.  An additional carpet estimate was received.  It was agreed by the trustees that the bottom level will be carpeted at a later time.

 

Don Yarger - Newton Fire Department  

Chief Yarger noted that fire turnout geared covered under the FEMA grant will be ordered. Squad is in need of a new air conditioning belt..   

 

C. Knox, reporting for EMS department said a new drug license has been applied for since the department will be moving to the new building later in the year.  Dr. Bill Rodgers of Cincinnati is our new Medical Director.  The no response calls were questioned by the trustees and it was stated our department is in the normal range considering other departments around the area.

 

Roads

Most of the necessary work required has been completed on Porter Run and Bush Run Road.  Crock Road will be addressed soon.  An Avondale resident complained about concrete being dumped in the road and it was researched to find the next door neighbor agreed to clean this up.

 

It was agreed that due to various health issues a person who previously interviewed may be hired to help out on a part-time basis mowing.

 

 

Old business

 

Condemned property on Limestone Valley Rd.

An asbestos abatement estimate from Lepi and Associates was received.  Some of this amount may be waived by the Ohio EPA due to the poor condition of the building. 

 

There was no appearance of owner(s) so plans to demolish will proceed.

 

Newsletter

The May newsletter is ready to print and should be in the mail in the very near future.

 

The EPA report being completed to cover the septic system at the new building is nearly complete.

 

 

New Business

 

Safety Training

A road crew member will be attending safety training presented by the Ohio LTAP in Athens.

 

 

Clerk

Notice has been received from OTARMA as to the necessity of "Concealed Weapon" signs being posted on all public buildings.

 

Permission was asked to be allowed to proceed with OPERS to go online for reporting and possibly payment of OPERS monthly records.  Permission was granted by all 3 trustees.

 

Long distance phone service was discussed and a calling card will be used in place of the existing service.

 

Notice has been received from Sidwell Materials as to impending work to be completed in the Columbia Cement area.

 

Final planning in the OTA Lease program process for the new building should be finalized by the next meeting.

Next meeting will be held Saturday, May 22nd, 2004 at the fire department at 5:00pm.

All bills were accepted as valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Supplemental Meeting May 22nd, 2004

Newton Township Trustees met for a brief supplemental meeting on Saturday, May 22nd, 2004 at 5:00pm at the Newton Township Fire Department.

Meeting was called to order at 5:00pm by president, Jim Geyer.

Those in attendance were: James C. Geyer, Derek J. Dozer and Charles R. Elson, township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk.

New Fire Station

A proposal to prepare the windows for replacement was received.  Windows will be purchased then installed by Jeff Swingle of the Fire Department.  

 

Geyer presented a resolution to move forward will the demolition of a vacant building on Limestone Valley Road.  All trustees approved.

 

Clerk

Additional forms were presented to sign regarding financing on the new Fire Station.

Next meeting will be held June 10th, 2004 at the fire department at 7:00pm.

All bills were accepted as valid expenditures and were to be paid as presented.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30pm.
