January 2004

Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 7:00pm at the Newton Township Fire Department.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

As the first order of business, Jim Geyer was voted into the chair position for 2004.  It was also determined that trustee meetings will normally be held the 2nd Thursday of each month.  Any variance to this will be posted 2 weeks prior on the fire house door.

Those in attendance were:  Loren C. Camp and Mark Eicher of the Muskingum County Engineer's office, Don Yarger, fire chief, Pat Kelly of Kelly Architectural Services, James C. Geyer, Derek J. Dozer and Charles R. Elson, township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk.

Mr. Camp and Mr. Eicher spoke to the County requirements for the installation of culverts.

Pat Kelly gave an update on the new fire house.  Change orders for the new building under construction were presented and signed off as agreeable.  There are still two bays to go when weather permits.  Inside work is being completed.

Don Yarger reported on the fire department.  Three applications were presented and approved.  Completed vehicle maintenance checks were presented.  The department as a whole was commended by the trustees for the job well done during the recent flood conditions.

Geyer spoke with cemetery caretaker regarding mowing equipment.

Dozer noted he has looked into the possibility of setting up a web page for the township.  All trustees agreed this was satisfactory and for Dozer to proceed as stated.

Geyer noted he would like to continue with a township newsletter.  All trustees agreed.

Restaurant on Maysville Pike applied for a liquor license.

Trustees agreed to let the current caretaker mow Goshen Cemetery again this season.

Trustees all agreed that all bills presented were valid expenditures and are to be paid.

Next meeting will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the fire department at 7:00pm.

Meeting adjourned at 9:40pm.
