Newton Township Trustees met in regular session on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 7:00pm at the Newton Township Fire Department.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Those in attendance were:  Matt Watts of the Maysville Youth League, Pat Kelly of Kelly Architectural Services, Don Yarger, fire chief, Tim Lutz, Craig Knox, Jeremy Yarger, Shaun Harlan of the Newton Fire Department, James C. Geyer, Derek J. Dozer and Charles R. Elson, township trustees and Bernadine E. Swingle, township clerk.

First order of business went to Matt Watts of the Maysville Youth League asking to use the ball field across from the fire department for the upcoming season.  It was found agreeable with all the trustees with the following stipulations; the league will keep all the grass mowed and all the trash picked up, there will be no alcoholic beverages consumed on the premises, and Easter and Community Days weekends will be kept free for community activities.

Pat Kelly - new fire house  

Pay request for was approved from the contractor.  This represents 50% completion of the contract services.  Also a request for a 60 day extension was approved because of existing weather conditions.  Window replacement is being further researched as the cost is higher than anticipated.  All conditions met with the approval of the trustees.

 

Don Yarger - Newton Fire Department  

Engine 1083 pumps replaced.  Medic 1081 is back in service.  Equipment issues discussed.  Paramedic and EMT refresher training currently going on at the department is at the mid-way point.  Craig Knox reported for EMS.  Delay in receiving payments in 2004.  2 department personnel are enrolled in training at this time.  4 additional department personnel were added to the list of licensed fire inspectors.

 

Old business  

Discussion regarding condemned property in White Cottage area.

 

New business

Current time/work sheets were discussed and will be updated.  

 

Employee compensation and vacation issues discussed.  

 

Geyer reported on JEDD meeting.   

 

Dozer noted problem with culvert on Payne Rd.

 

Burned out property in White Cottage area has transferred ownership.  There will be follow-up on this in the future.  

 

Tractor / mower for cemetery mowing was again discussed.  More information is being obtained.

 

Temporary appropriations were discussed and presented.  These will be confirmed at the March meeting.

 

Notice has been received from the Muskingum County Health Department announcing the annual meeting on March 10th. 

Trustees all agreed that all bills presented were valid expenditures and are to be paid.

Next meeting will be held Thursday, March 11, 2004 at the fire department at 7:00pm.
